Before you visit the bridal salon in search of your perfect dress, it’s important to have an idea of what kind of dress you want to try. There are a number of different wedding dress silhouettes and in this blog, we will give you a brief overview of what they are.

BALL GOWN

If you dreamed of having a fairytale wedding as a little girl, you probably pictured yourself in a ball gown. This silhouette features a fitted bodice and a full skirt. The fullness of the skirt depends on the design. Some ball gowns will be bigger than others. You may have to try on a few different dresses to see what you like the best.

MERMAID

This beautiful silhouette will give your body that coveted hourglass shape. Mermaid dresses are fitted with a skirt that flares out at the knee or thigh. These dresses also have a very dramatic flare.

TRUMPET

Trumpet silhouettes are very similar to mermaid. The main difference is where the flare starts. On a mermaid silhouette, the flair starts at the knee, whereas with a trumpet silhouette the flare starts mid thigh. The flare on a wedding dress with trumpet silhouette is also more gradual and not as dramatic.

At Serendipity Bridal & Events, we have dresses in many different styles, including mermaid and trumpet. Our experts can help you find a wedding dress that will fit both your style and your budget. Try dresses from top designers like Casablanca Bridal or Maggie Sottero. Make an appointment today!

A-LINE

Unlike mermaid and trumpet wedding dresses, a-line dresses have a fuller skirt similar to ball gowns. The bodice of an a-line dress is fitted and accentuates your narrowest point. Ball gowns have a more dramatic full skirt, but with an a-line, the flare of the skirt is more gradual. The skirt is flowy and easy to move around in so the bride can dance the night away!

SHEATH

Sheath dresses fall straight down your body like a waterfall. This type of dress follows the body’s natural curves and has a lengthening effect due to its long lines. Unlike the other silhouettes mentioned above, this dress does not always have a defined waistline.

SHORT AND TEA-LENGTH

In some cases, a bride might not want a full-length dress, in which case she may choose a tea-length dress or even a short dress. Tea-length dresses fall between the knee and the ankle, and short dresses fall above the knee. The choice is entirely yours!
